How to recognise a mental barrier to performance

iStock_000004173418XSmall.jpgYou can be in perfect physical condition, and yet have a mental block that contributes to below-par performance. The first step is to recognise that you can improve your mental performance, just as you can improve your physical performance.

But recognising a mental block doesn't mean you can remove it on your own. We are limited in our self-awareness and the degree to which we can help ourselves. That's just how our minds work. Sometimes you need outside help to succeed.

Blocks to performance can come from any number of sources -

  • Past injury that makes you wonder if you can be as good as you used to be - even though you know your body has healed.
  • A previous under-performance that makes you think it might happen again.
  • A negative experience in your past, totally unrelated to sport, that colours your judgement about your ability to perform - even if you know your body can deliver the goods.

My job is to help you discover what your blocks are - and then remove them.

Forever.
